What is Android?
Posted on September 22, 2011 |
Android is a software stack for mobile devices that includes an operating system, middleware and key applications. The Android SDK provides the tools and APIs necessary to begin developing applications on the Android
platform using the Java programming language.
Android™ delivers a complete set of software for mobile devices: an operating system, middleware and key mobile applications. The Android Software Development Kit (SDK) is now available.
Open
Android was built from the ground-up to enable developers to create compelling mobile applications that take full advantage of all a handset has to offer. It was built to be truly open. For example, an application can call upon any of the phone’s core functionality such as making calls, sending text messages, or using the camera, allowing developers to create richer and more cohesive experiences for users. Android is built on the open Linux Kernel. Furthermore, it utilizes a custom virtual machine that was designed to optimize memory and hardware resources in a mobile environment. Android is open source; it can be liberally extended to incorporate new cutting edge technologies as they emerge. The platform will continue to evolve as the developer community works together to build innovative mobile applications.
All applications are created equal
Android does not differentiate between the phone’s core applications and third-party applications. They can all be built to have equal access to a phone’s capabilities providing users with a broad spectrum of applications and services. With devices built on the Android Platform, users are able to fully tailor the phone to their interests. They can swap out the phone’s homescreen, the style of the dialer, or any of the applications. They can even instruct their phones to use their favorite photo viewing application to handle the viewing of all photos.
Breaking down application boundaries
Android breaks down the barriers to building new and innovative applications. For example, a developer can combine information from the web with data on an individual’s mobile phone — such as the user’s contacts, calendar, or geographic location — to provide a more relevant user experience. With Android, a developer can build an application that enables users to view the location of their friends and be alerted when they are in the vicinity giving them a chance to connect.
Fast & easy application development
Android provides access to a wide range of useful libraries and tools that can be used to build rich applications. For example, Android enables developers to obtain the location of the device, and allows devices to communicate with one another enabling rich peer-to-peer social applications. In addition, Android includes a full set of tools that have been built from the ground up alongside the platform providing developers with high productivity and deep insight into their applications.

Design of Sony Ericsson Mix Walkman
Re-release of a series of Walkman phones, Sony Ericsson (Soner) introduces the Walkman Mix. Before we had to review Mix Walkman W8 series. And similar to the W8, Walkman Mix faces covered with capacitive touch screen measuring 3 inches. Only Mix Walkman has a depth resolution color display screen is also smaller, ie 256 thousand colors and 240 x 400 pixels. Soner Mix claimed walkman screen scratch resistant. He also has an accelerometer sensor for automatic screen rotation.
Relatively small body size mobile phone. Dimensions measure 95.8 x 52.8 x 14.3 mm and weighs 88 grams. Notch-outs provide ergonomic effect. Especially the back cover slip coated with rubber to avoid when gripped. On the facade there is only the home button. Being on the side and it inserted a camera shutter, volume control, a shortcut to the audio player, key zappin applications, and power that also serves as a screen lock.
Note
Mix Walkman features a 3.5 mm audio jack port and a microUSB port.
Features
His name is a Walkman phone, the audio player feature certainly qualified. Various options available equalizer, shuffle, playlist, genre, year, loops and stereo widening. Music format that can be played back the MP3, eAAC +, and WMA. What is unique is that there are similar features karaoke here. Press the microphone button in the lower right corner to start the Karaoke display. Singing along with the lyrics by pressing buttons on the screen. Zappin features as unique, even create a special shortcut Soner Mix Walkman on top to run it. When pressing the button Zappin, the phone will play from 4 to 15 second chorus of a song. You will soon know if it’s the song you want to hear. Press the button again and will start the song from the beginning.
Soner understand the desire of consumers to always connect to social networking accounts and chat via IM wherever they are. Therefore, to chat there are two kinds of services that Google Talk and ebuddy. Soner not forget to insert the Facebook and Twitter, the two most popular social networking today. Unfortunately some of these applications (except for eBuddy) is only a shortcut to the mobile version.
Note
Another interesting feature is the Media Go. These applications facilitate the transfer media files between phone and PC via drag and drop.
Performance
Reactivity levels less than perfect phone. There are some applications that do not immediately open when selected. In our opinion, the sensitivity of the screen is not too fine, let alone without the help of other navigational experience using the mobile phone could be reduced. For sound output quality so-so we gave thumbs, not surprising because after all this is a Walkman phone. Equipped with a Lithium Ion 1000 mAh, we can listen to music more than 13 hours non-stop. It was enough to make your ears happy to hear the song almost all day.
